Are you finding yourself asking, should I hire a wedding planner? How do I choose the right one? Well here is a bit of advice, I hope this helps you make your decision. I love the holidays – so much happiness and LOVE! Speaking of love, did you know that 40% of engagements happen between Thanksgiving and Valentines Day? As a new bride to be there are so many questions that come up: Where should I get my wedding dress? Where should I get married? What color palette do I use? Traditional or modern ceremony? Today I want to tackle the question – Should I hire a wedding planner? The answer is a giant YES! I want to share three reasons why you should hire a wedding planner and then three tips for booking your perfect planner.
SHOULD I HIRE A WEDDING PLANNER?
1). Planning takes a lot of time: Wedding planning is a FULL time job! It can consume all of your time scrolling through pinterest, reading blogs, researching venues, vendors, and more. Let a wedding planner help you navigate the overwhelming world of weddings, they usually have plenty of great connections with venues and vendors and can help guide you in the direction you are looking as well as introduce you to vendors they think will be a good fit with you and your wedding style. Wedding planners typically have vendors that offer referral discounts to brides and grooms if we refer a client to them! You heard that, wedding planners can actually help you save money? They can also help keep you on track with your budget, we at Paper Hearts + Co have an awesome online platform we use called Aisle Planner. The budget tracker is one of my favorite features, you can input your budget and it will help you know what percentage is typically spent for each part of a wedding.
2). We are your advocate: You have someone in your corner other than your fiance at all times. I’m on your side! Your wedding planner should be your advocate in all situations – we will stand up for you and take care of you! More often than not I feel like the bride and I become good friends throughout the wedding planning process and part of my job is taking care of and standing up for the bride and her desires not to get overshadowed by well-meaning friends and family.
3). Stress Manager: Stress less – wedding planners can take a huge load of stress away by helping with pre-planning as well as day of coordinating. I could write a book on how many times I have heard stories of people having family members take on day of wedding responsibilities and it not getting done – with a wedding planner you have a signed contract that they are working for YOU. Its their job to make sure that vendors are arriving, your cake table is set up, the rings get to the best man before the ceremony, your string quartet is playing the correct song as you walk down the aisle, that your grandmothers handkerchief is in your bouquet and every other single detail. There are so many tiny pieces to keep track of so let your wedding planner take the wheel and you and your family can enjoy a wonderful, stress free day – when you look back on your wedding day all you will remember are happy memories!
HOW DO I HIRE A WEDDING PLANNER?
1). Ask your married friends: Reach out to your friends who have gotten married recently and ask them if they had a wedding planner and if they liked them. 50% of my business comes from referrals and I love working with friends of clients because I get to work with similar groups several times. Do your homework, ask around, read reviews, and narrow your selection down to 2 or 3 that you really like.
2). Schedule an initial meeting: Most wedding planners offer a free initial consultation to meet in person or facetime (if potential client is out of state) to get to know each other and see if they are a good fit. Let’s be real, depending on how early wedding planners are hired – sometimes up to a year and a half in advance, the three of you, bride, groom, and planner are a team and working very closely together for a long period of time so its important that you all get along and enjoy working together. Come up with a list of questions before the meeting so that you don’t forget anything that really matters to you.
3). Sign the contract: Once you have decided on who to hire make sure to book them ASAP, wedding season gets really busy so if you are getting married between May-September its important to hire the wedding planner you have chosen ASAP! Once that contract is signed they are booked for your date!
I hope this helps you as you start your journey to your wedding day!
